Luckily, good news is traveling from Yangon to Ngwe Saung is not as troublesome as travel from Bagan to Ngwe Saung. But in any cases, let take a brief look at what Ngwe Saung offers!

Ngwe Saung Beach

Ngwe Saung is located 55 kilometers away from Pathein. Normally it takes 1 – 2 hours to go from Pathein to Ngwe Saung by bus. Several years ago, Ngwe Saung was not well-known. Not much people came to Ngwe Saung and it was a pretty wild beach. Nowadays, Ngwe Saung has more visitors, hotels and other services has been established,… Overall, it is good time to visit Ngwa Saung. Since it is not a much-visited beach, it is a nice place to avoid bustling and crowded atmosphere of Yangon. Here travelers can enjoy isolated atmosphere, refreshing air, and take part in activities like snorkeling and elephant riding.

Like Ngapali Beach, Ngwe Saung Beach is also one of best attractions in Myanmar. Some may prefer Ngapali Beach over Ngwe Saung, however, others consider Ngapali to be so expensive despite of being slightly better. In any cases, it’s your decision to make.

Now, onto our main question! And sadly, currently there’s only one option to travel from Yangon to Ngwe Saung, which is… bus.

Travel on Bus

As usual, bus price is quite cheap. The top choice will be night-bus which start from 9 PM to 3:30 AM. One-way ticket for night-bus can cost about 10000 to 20000 Kyat. The bus will start from Hlaing Thar Yar station, Yangon, and take you directly to Ngwe Saung. There are plenty of bus services to choose from, notably: Asia Dragon and Golden Star.

If you wish to go in the morning, there are buses which go to Pathein. They are normally available from 6 to 7 AM, the cost will be around 10.000 Kyat. After you arrive at Pathein, you can take another bus to Ngwe Saung at the cost of 4000 Kyat (there are motorbike-taxis and jumbos but you have to haggle for the price).

The entire trip commonly takes about 5 – 6 hours. In the past, the trip from Yangon to Ngwe Saung is pretty rough with bumpy road, average bus facility. That said, the facilities are better now so it’s not that bad to travel to the beach by bus.

In case you’re wondering, yes there is another way to travel from Yangon to Ngwe Saung which is via private car or taxi. However, this option is not really recommended by many previous travelers because of extremely high cost. Normally, it will cost you about 120 $USD (that’s equal to a flight’s price). In addition, there are some cases in which drivers even try to charge you 600 $USD. In the end, unless you really need a comfortable ride, paying for a private car or taxi is not really worth it.
